Science Lecture Series &
The St. Luke the Physician Club

Bishop Ward offers two unique programs for students interested in careers in medical science: The Science Lecture Series and the St. Luke the Physician Club.

St. Luke the Physician Club
Students interested in medical fields are mentored by Dr. Brad Stanley. The club meets once a month during lunch and reviews medical case studies, and discusses careers in health care and options for college.

Dr. Stanley is a practicing Urologist in eastern Jackson County.  He has a special interest in kidney and prostate cancer surgery.  Dr. Stanley was born and raised in Kansas City, Kan.

He has a biology degree from University of Kansas in Lawrence and went on to attend KU Medical School. He has served as Medical Staff President and Surgery Department Chairman at Centerpoint Hospital and President of the Kansas City Urologic Society.

2009-2010 Science Lecture Series
Bishop Ward High School began its Science Lecture Series in the 2008-2009 school year.

The series was developed by Bishop Ward’s science department to expose the students to leaders in the science field. The lecture series is part of Bishop Ward’s efforts to expand its science program to provide its students with opportunities that will generate and promote their interest in the sciences. Bishop Ward has a strong tradition of preparing students to work in scientific areas such as medicine, chemistry and engineering.
