Dailey Qualifies for State Swimming

Junior Kate Dailey has qualified for Kansas State swimming in 100 yard butterfly 1:02.99, in 100 yard freestyle 57.94, in 200 yard freestyle 2:07.19, and in 500 yard freestyle 5:42.51.
State preliminaries are May 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Capital Federal Natatorium in Topeka, Kan. The finals are May 22 at 11 a.m.
Kate has swam for the Bishop Ward swim team since her freshman year. |
Jake Kolenda Named Athlete of the Week
KSHB-TV Action News has awarded senior Jake Kolenda the Hy-Vee High School Athlete of the Week award for his pitching performance against Piper High School on April 10. Jake pitched 15 strikeouts and one walk in the 13-4 win.
Kolenda is 3 and 0 as a right-handed pitcher. He also plays third base and has a .421 batting average with two homers and 8 RBI. He also carries a 3.95 GPA.

Kylie Burns Receives Basketball Honors

Senior Kylie Burns has recently received several honors for accomplishments as a girls’ basketball player. Kylie was one of only 23 girls from the state of Kansas to be selected to the national McDonald’s All American team.
She was also named First Team All-State by Topeka-Capital Journal, 2nd Team All-State by Wichita Eagle, and 2nd Team All-Metro by Kansas City Star. The Wyandotte Daily News named her Wyandotte County Basketball Player of the Year. |
| Kylie was selected for the Hy-Vee/Pepsi High School All-Star Challenge on April 10 at the Independence Events Center. This event showcases some of the top senior basketball players around the city. The game was featured on Metro Sports cable channel. |

BW Students Presented Champions of Character Awards by NAIA
On March 20, seniors Zach Nill and Kylie Burns were awarded the Champions of Character High School Award by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
The award is presented annually to 100 area students who exemplify Champions of Character values both in and out of competition. The 2010 award winners were chosen from a list of nominees who clearly demonstrate in everyday decisions integrity, respect, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

Dallas Shalz Selected to Shrine Bowl

Senior Dallas Shalz, who played offensive line for the Bishop Ward Cyclones, has been selected to play in the 2010 Kansas Shrine Bowl. This charity all-star football game is scheduled for July 31 at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.
Selection to play in the game has become one of the most sought after and prestigious honors a Kansas high school football player can be awarded. |
Only 68 young men are invited to play in this game each year from the entire state of Kansas.
Players are selected by a mail ballot of over 30 sports media professionals and selections of the 2010 Kansas Shrine Bowl coaching staff.
In addition to bringing honor and recognition to the participants and their schools, the Shrine Bowl donates all net profits, over $2 million so far, to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
