"Once on This Island" March 4-6
The Bishop Ward High School Drama Club will perform Once on This Island March 4-6 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The production's choreographer is Michael Joy, who is the Director of Artistic and Educational Programs for Alvin Ailey in Kansas City. He has worked extensively in local theater and has appeared on Broadway in the original production of The Lion King.
Tickets Tickets will be on sale for $3 for students (K-12) and $5 for adults through March 2. After March 2, they will be $4 for students and $6 for adults. Seniors over 65 and members of religious communities are always admitted for free. |

About the Musical Once on This Island is a one-act musical with a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. Based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy, the musical is a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid set in the French Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.
In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune, a black peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.
When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. |
Donations are still needed to help with future productions:

- Donations to aid in continued renovations of the auditorium and stage facilities
- Tools: drills, mitre saw, table saw, circular saw
- Dresses, slacks, shirts, shoes, skirts in good condition
